About the Unitree GD01
The Unitree GD01 is the world's first production-ready manned mecha robot, unveiled by Unitree Robotics on May 12, 2026. The GD01 is available to buy in the USA and Europe starting from $650,000 USD. It stands approximately 3.2 metres (10.5 feet) tall, weighs 500 kilograms with a pilot on board, and transforms between bipedal and quadrupedal walking modes in seconds.
The GD01 mecha robot is designed for theme parks, industrial inspection, emergency rescue, mining operations, entertainment, film production, and private ownership. It can be operated with a human pilot inside the cockpit, via remote control, or with partial AI autonomy for foot placement.
Buyers in the United States can purchase the GD01 with no federal prohibition on civilian ownership. Buyers in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, and other EU countries can also order with full import and customs support included. Delivery lead time is typically 8–16 weeks from confirmed order.
The GD01 was manufactured by Unitree Robotics, based in Hangzhou, China, founded by CEO Wang Xingxing. Unitree holds approximately 60–70% of the global quadruped robot market and shipped over 5,500 humanoid robots in 2025. The company is pursuing a $608M IPOon Shanghai's STAR Market.
On May 14, 2026, Elon Musk called the GD01 "cool" on X, generating 890,000 likes. The robot was covered by WIRED, The Verge, Fast Company, New Atlas, and Interesting Engineering within hours of its reveal, and generated over 23,000 Reddit upvotes in 24 hours.
